Please read the postings before commenting. What she needs is a positive support system. Baby steps all the information everyone is giving her is great but a successful diet is a diet where you start by changing one thing at a time. If you try and do too much in the beginning you will fail.... By cutting out fast food and soda she will loose quite a bit of weight. So instead of telling her what to do cheer her on. Every heard the saying too many hands in the cookie jar. Well here's your sign. She appreciates all of your support and help to get thru the hard times.. But please be supportive and stop telling her what she's doing wrong she's doing great. If you've ever been a dieter you know you can only accomplish one goal at a time. You have to gain the will power and the drive before you can proceed to the next step...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5435002735576520167.post-91930731793427504992009-06-01T13:51:29.182-07:002009-06-01T13:51:29.182-07:00You probably don't want advice about your food but...You probably don't want advice about your food but reading your blog I felt prompted to write. I agree with the last poster....your choices of empty carbs and sugar will only set you up to be hungry and eat muore carbs and sugar later. Thats how they work. Dump the empty food you are eating and replace it with high quality protein, as many vegetables as you can eat and ezekiel products for your carbs that are low on the glycemic scale and wont set you up to eat more later. They will satisfy you all day. Drink 2 c skim milk a day, get a fruit in....go for a walk...go to bed and get up and do the same thing all over again.

You're only setting yourself up with empty carbs and sugar. Trust me - been there, done it, and recovered from it. Good luck.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5435002735576520167.post-48765949569543994002009-06-01T08:47:47.735-07:002009-06-01T08:47:47.735-07:00Depending on the number of Ritz crackers you consu...Depending on the number of Ritz crackers you consumed and the amount of cream cheese plus jelly, it's possible you consumed as many calories in that as you would've with a chicken breast from KFC - 370 calories. Admitedly KFC has a lot of sodium, but you would've gotten a big dose of protein, 38 gm. The chicken would've helped you feel less hungry for a longer period of time and it would've given you nutritional building blocks for stronger muscles. And even better. KFC now has grilled chicken, at 180 calories for a chicken breast. That's a much better choice then crackers (carbs), cream cheese (fat) and grape jelly (sugar). Saying all this, I'm on the same journey you are. I do like reading your blog. Good luck.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5435002735576520167.post-42738402900577294262009-05-27T10:01:48.063-07:002009-05-27T10:01:48.063-07:00Way to go, Girlfriend! Congratulations, I'm proud ...Way to go, Girlfriend! Congratulations, I'm proud of you! Small steps add up quickly to permanent changes. I feel you on the chicken! One of the changes I made, to also deal with fried chicken cravings was to buy chicken breasts with the bone-in and roast them myself with a little olive oil and my favorite spice (currently Penzey's Sunny Paris or Fines Herbs) 375 degrees until the middle is 160. Then I can still satisfy some of that chicken craving with less guilt because it's NOT fried. Fix a halfway decent side (some kind of veggie - lately for us it's been steamed acorn squash with butter) and you're set! It's a step outside of the guilt that's still tasty.
Don't forget to reward yourself somehow! Baby steps will become permanent changes if you reward yourself. My original goals couldn't be food, 'cuz then I just felt guilty after getting my reward. My current goal, after teaching this year, was an hour long massage. Thanks to my wonderful husband (and our 11th anniversary last week) I'll be getting 2 hour long massages in the near future.Heatherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08614187736891230699noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5435002735576520167.post-76373311207258723292009-05-27T06:27:51.038-07:002009-05-27T06:27:51.038-07:00I know how hard passing up on that chicken was for...I know how hard passing up on that chicken was for you, and I'm so proud of you for resisting. I'm going to forgo the fast food as well, so that you know someone (and someone you know has very similar food issues) is struggling with (and, hopefully, overcoming)that addiction too.

Baby steps, girl- you're off to a great start!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05585809054217185829noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5435002735576520167.post-3478834082500884382009-05-27T05:51:43.090-07:002009-05-27T05:51:43.090-07:00It's a victory that you didn't give in to the chic...It's a victory that you didn't give in to the chicken! I have lost 24 lbs...Kristin, I am cheering for you. I have lost 24 lbs this month and it has not been easy. I am addicted to sugar and am a stress eater. To help me with my accountability I have been writing down everything I eat and keep a running tally of the calories. My doctor told me to eat between 1500-1750 calories a day. I carry my calorie book in my purse and keep a pen attached to it. I pull it out about 10 times a day. I can also predict a bad eating day if I leave the house without snacks in my bag. I carry fruit/veggies and 100 calorie packs of crunchy snacks like pretzels. When you get a craving for something like fried chicken grab your pretzels or whatever you have and crunch away. Just remember that you are making a life change not dieting. Being healthy and having more energy will just add to your happiness!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
